Flooding at Lake Naivasha - Kihoto
So much rain in the last 8 weeks. Lake Naivasha is at an all-time high. Parts of Kihoto are flooded. More than 2,000 displaced.
As I mentioned in a previous post, it's not all about Corona here.
I went to see the floods in Kihoto. A large housing estate on the edge of Naivasha, on the shores of Lake Naivasha. It's a mini Kibera. It's "off-limits" for me alone.
I told a staff member here that I wanted to go, "I'll come with you" before I had even asked for an escort (I had no plans to go alone, don't worry).
It's not all flooded. Only a small part but they say that more than 2000 people have been displaced.
We were turned back. As usual in Africa, they don't take kindly to people taking photos! Except locals are free to upload videos on to YouTube.
A body was fished out of the water some days ago. The sewers are flooded. There is a Cholera risk. And of course, there are hippos in the lake.
These are just a few images that I was allowed to get. The main area blocked off. Unless you are press, no chance for me to get closer to the 'action'.

Below, the water is rising:
The water is backing up so the sewers are over flowing:
But the day had a happy ending. We bought some fish for lunch. Enough for 5 for just 5 bucks.
